I’m not a lawyer, but I got my name from Atticus Finch. He was the lawyer in “To Kill A Mockingbird” and a pretty cool guy. I live with a couple of lawyers. I think they are pretty cool too. I don’t know what they do when they go to the office, but when they come home, they treat me like a prince. Sometimes they talk about things I don’t understand, but then they give me a treat, and that makes it all better.
I have noticed that humans sometimes get really upset about things that don’t matter much and often forget about the things that do matter. I try to remind my humans, but I have to be patient. When my humans are away it makes me sad. When they come home I am happy. I show them that I am happy to see them. It doesn’t matter if they are gone for ten days or ten minutes, I am happy that they came back. Humans ought to be better at saying how happy they are to have each other in their lives. My humans always tell me I’m special. They let me know they are lucky to have me.
I like walking early in the morning with David. We stay quiet and listen for the bears and the deer. We are not afraid of the bears, but we do keep our distance. Although, the cubs look a lot like me. I think we could be friends. I love all the smells of morning in the mountains.
Unfortunately, I no longer live with David and Stephanie. I got sick and had to go away. David and Stephanie were very sad. They still have pictures of me everywhere so I know they will not forget me. I will not forget them. Now, I am with Cheyenne again and we both feel great. We chase squirrels and lie in the sun together.
The most important lessons I learned were to show the people you love how much you love them. Do it every day. And remember that every day is a grand adventure. I wish humans understood these lessons better. Be kind to each other. Appreciate every sandwich.
Here are pictures of me with my big sister, Cheyenne:
